Increased access to Travelling Stock Reserves
28 August 2015
Stock access to Travelling Stock Reserves in the western half of the Murray Local Land Services region will be progressively increased as climatic conditions continue to improve.
From Monday 31 August 2015, Destination Only restrictions north of the Billabong Creek between Carrathool Road and Colombo Creek will be lifted.
This means that the areas affected by Destination Only restrictions will be reduced from 31 August to include the following parts of the Murray Local Land Services Region.
- West of but not including Carrathool Road for all reserves north of Billabong Creek.
- West of and including Federation Way for all reserves south of Billabong Creek.
'Destination Only' means travelling stock must have a genuine point of destination that is able to receive the stock. The travel rate must be 10km per day and no slow travel will be permitted. Destination only does not restrict local routine stock movements between properties.
Stock owners or managers should note that although the Destination Only Zone is progressively being reduced as conditions improve, localised restrictions to mob numbers, mob sizes, travel rates and/or locations may still apply in other areas based on conditions.
Murray LLS Manager Land Services, Helen Wilson, said that it was pleasing to see the condition of travelling stock reserves in the Murray Region progressively improve following a dry autumn and cold winter.
"It was a marginal decision not to remove totally the broad scale Destination Only restrictions now. However given current El Niño weather conditions and the increased possibility of a dry spring, for the time being we will only scale back the area on destination only, not totally remove it."
"Where user demand exceeds service capacity, priority will also be given to local users as opposed to users from other regions. Our staff will continue to liaise with Riverina Local Land Service staff to best manage the reserves."
"Murray Local Land Services will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as conditions change", she concluded.
Stock owners or managers can get further information from their local Murray Local Land Services offices in Deniliquin, Jerilderie and Moulamein or Lavington.
