Time running out to enrol for board elections
07 March 2017
Local Land Services ratepayers are being urged to enrol to vote in this year’s May elections.
Ratepayers in the Murray region will vote to elect three local board members on the local board.
If you pay Local Land Services rates, you’re eligible to vote.
Murray Local Land Services General Manager, Gary Rodda, said one ratepayer from each holding could vote in the 31 May elections, but they must enrol first to receive ballot papers at election time.
“Time is running out to enrol to vote in the 2017 elections with the electoral roll closing on Friday 31 March,” Mr Rodda said.
“We are focused on making this process as easy as possible for our ratepayers and have introduced easy online methods of enrolling, nominating and voting.
“We have introduced online voting to streamline the process for enrolled ratepayers to have a say about who represents their region on local boards.
“All enrolled ratepayers will receive voting instructions either via email for online voting or a postal ballot material pack for those enrolled electors without email contact.”
People who receive email voting instructions will be able to opt to receive postal ballot papers.
Mr Rodda said it was an exciting time for Murray Local Land Services and 2017 would bring with it refreshed local boards who would strive to meet the objectives of the Murray Local Strategic Plan.
“We are also calling for candidate nominations, which close at 12 pm on 10 April,” he said.
