Blue green algae alert lifted in both the Murray and Edward rivers

24 June 2016

The Murray and Sunraysia Regional Algal Coordinating Committees, Goulburn Murray Water and Lower Murray Water, today lifted the red alert warning for blue-green algae in the Murray River from downstream of Yarrawonga to Moama/Echuca and from Merbein to Lock 9.

There are no longer any reaches of the Murray River on red alert.

The red alert warning for blue-green algae was also lifted in the Edward River.

A red alert warning for blue-green algae remains in the Wakool River upstream of the Wakool–Barham Road Bridge.

DPI Water and local water authorities will continue to monitor the algae and the remaining red alert will be lifted as soon as the high levels of algae dissipate.
